Hakoach Vienna soccer team became world famous when they defeated West Ham United by a score of 5–1, becoming the first non-English league to beat England on British soil. Britain soccer culture was much more advanced than its neighbours in Europe. As such it was a huge surprise to see a local team beat a first league British team. Hakoah soccer team later explained that as a Jewish group they often face violance and hatered from judges and audiences, forcing them to be tougher than the rest of the groups.
