The opening ceremony of the 2nd Maccabiah was a grand event – in a way, the Maccabiah in those early days, before Israel was an official state, was much more than a global Jewish sport event. It was a Zionist event establishing the Jewish people right to their own state and building national pride among Jews all over the world. The opening ceremony with the flags flying high was a stately event and this picture capture the essence of it.
